    Armory Week 2018

    Every year the Armory Week brings the latest developments in modern and contemporary art to New York City. The art week which takes its name from the Armory Show is ready to return with its 2018 edition. Lasting not one but for two weeks this year, the Armory Week is made of multiple New York events and fairs which come one after another. Let’s have a look at the 2018 Armory Week, and explore what-where-and-whens of the best New York fairs and shows together.


    ADAA Art Show
    February 27–March 4

    The ADAA Art Show gives direction to American Contemporary Art every year. Now in its 30th year, the show will take place in the Park Avenue Armory in New York. Featuring 72 dealers, the ADAA Art Show will present and showcase the best examples of modern and contemporary art from America and beyond. This year, many of the 72 exhibitors at the fair gave over their booths to presentations of single artists, among them are Peter Saul at Michael Werner, Harmony Hammond at Alexanger Grey and Thomas Chimes at the Lock Gallery.

    In its 24th year, the Armory Show not only gives its name to the Armory Week but also presents the best artworks of the 20th and 21th century. This year the fair will feature presentations from 200 international galleries on Piers 92 and 94 and will include a “Focus” section. Under the direction of Minneapolis Institute of Art curator Gabriel Ritter, the Focus section will explore technology and its relationship to arts.


    March 8-11

    This year, NADA has moved its location south, to the ground floor of Skylight Clarkson Square in West SoHo. Featuring 100 exhibitors from 17 countries in its new 60.000 sq metres venue, NADA will host new galleries from Milan, New York and Michigan. In 2018, it also offers a fund for Bronx Museum of the Arts curators to acquire a work from the fair for the institution’s permanent collection.

    Right at the next door to the Armory Show, in Pier 90, Volta NY will host 85 international contemporary galleries from all around the world. Artist Mickalene Thomas and collector and consultant Racquel Chevremont are co-organizing the fair’s “Curated” section this year. Titled “The Aesthetics of Matter,” this section features a project of eight artists relying on collaged material in their work.


    Independent New York

    Organized in two major cities, Brussels and New York, Independent Art Fair’s 2018 New York edition will host many important solo and site-specific projects. Now on its ninth edition in the Spring Studios in Tribeca, it will feature 50 exhibitors, 19 of whom are showing there for the first time.


    March 9-11

    Scope 2018 returns to the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea between 9-11 March. In its 18th iteration, Scope will host 60 exhibitors which aim to bring to light the latest trends in contemporary art. One of the most important elements of the fair is its VIP Programming, which offers a rich program of events, screening and talks.


    Art on Paper

    Held at Pier 36, the Art On Paper focuses on works done on paper. This year it features 85 exhibitors, all of whom will show latest trends in modern and contemporary art and will present artists who create marvels with the medium of paper.


    Clio Art Fair
    March 8-11

    Known as ‘’An Anti-fair of Indenpendent Artists’’ the Clio Art Fair provides an alternative fair experience that goes beyond booth and gallery representation. Aiming at supporting and showcasing independent artists, it will be held at the 35th Street, and as usual, it is free to the public.
